AirCrafters
completed this Glasair II-S FT with owner Gerry Hodnefield in
early 1999. The photo sequence below shows some of the activities leading
up to first flight, and subsequent modifications performed at the request of the
owner. The rudder pedal/brake actuation geometry wasn't allowing full
braking effectiveness so we re-positioned the pivot attach points to provide full
brake cylinder travel. Other photos show determining weight and balance,
disassembly prior to transport to Hollister airport, preparations for first flight,
and a shot of the hangared Glasair at sunset on the day of its first flight.
Afterwards, the owner asked us to design, build and install winglets, and while we
were at it, we incorporated fuel tank vent lines in these winglets to alleviate a
tendency to siphon fuel overboard while parked on uneven surfaces. After the owner
nailed down his paint scheme, AirCrafters
put him together with Steve Green Aircraft Painting in Ashland
Oregon, and the result is truly gorgeous. We then modified the nose-wheel
fairing to make it less susceptible to damage from the tow-bar. Look for this
sharp Glasair II-S FT at an airshow near you in the year 2001!
