Sven Ingels used AirCrafters services to help complete his BD-5B back in January of 2001.
This past January, he contact us again to help him with some of the issues he had uncovered during
his Phase-I flight test program. His test pilot, Rich Perkins, had discovered that the
right wing angle of incidence had been set one degree lower than the left (back in the 70's), and
the plane had a strong tendency to roll right at speed. The gear-retraction mechanism
was extremely difficult to operate, and there were minor fuel leaks in the wing tanks. Sven
also wanted to replace the inadequate BD-5 brakes with upgraded Matco "jet brakes," as well
as change out the fiberglass gear legs with solid aluminum units. AirCrafters accomplished
all these things with Sven over the past several months, and the plane has just come back from the
paint shop with silvered fairings to complement the all-aluminum skins.
This is one beautiful BD-5B and Sven is rightfully proud of his accomplishments.
